Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer's Call for a Two-State Solution
Warning of Israel's Isolation
Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) has warned that Israel risks becoming a pariah state if it does not work towards a two-state solution with the Palestinians. In a speech on the Senate floor, Schumer said that Israel's continued occupation of the West Bank is "unjust and unsustainable" and that it is eroding support for Israel among the international community.
Call for a Two-State Solution
Schumer called for a two-state solution that would give the Palestinians a viable and contiguous state alongside Israel. He said that this is the only way to achieve a lasting peace in the region.
Criticism of Netanyahu's Government
Schumer also criticized Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's government for its policies towards the Palestinians. He said that Netanyahu's government has "made it clear that it is not interested in a two-state solution" and that it is instead pursuing a "one-state solution" that would lead to the annexation of the West Bank.
Support for Israel
Schumer emphasized that he remains a strong supporter of Israel and that he believes that a two-state solution is the best way to protect Israel's security and its long-term future.
